Many Etowah County baseball teams saw plenty of success this season, and it showed on the 2017 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State teams.
Seven county teams made the postseason with plenty of talent on their rosters. Etowah and Hokes Bluff made the deepest run of the seven teams and both teams were well represented on the All-State teams.
The Blue Devils had two first-teamers in Cade Runyan and Eli Dunn with Jacob Bobo landing on the second team.
Runyan made the Class 5A first team as a pitcher. He tossed 12 games and finished with an 11-1 record with a 1.10 ERA. He struck out 55 batters in 63 1/3 innings of work.
Dunn, who also pitched for Etowah, made the 5A first team as an outfielder. He had 35 hits including five doubles and five home runs. He batted .353 and totaled 28 RBIs.
Bobo made the 5A second team as a catcher. He had 40 hits and 32 RBIs with a .388 batting average.
Hokes Bluff also had three players make the 4A All-State teams.

Ball had 35 hits including one home run and four doubles. He hit .389 and totaled 23 RBIs. Watson finished the year with 43 hits. He totaled four doubles, one triple, one homer and 32 RBIs with a .430 batting average.
Dylan Teague was named honorable mention for the Eagles as a pitcher.
Westbrook Christian’s Tyler Self joined Runyan and Dunn as the lone Etowah County players to land on their classification’s first team.
Self made the 2A first team as a pitcher, and it’s easy to see why. He finished the year 9-2 with a 1.18 ERA. He fanned 72 batters in 65 innings.
Gadsden City’s Hudson James and Southside’s Tanner Snow landed in their classification’s second team.
James, who made the 7A second team as a shortstop for the Titans, had 40 hits with a .460 batting average. He had seven doubles, two triples, 19 RBIs and stole 37 bases.
Snow landed on the 6A second team at third base after hitting .441 for the Panthers. He had 45 hits with 12 doubles, five triples and one home run. He stole 15 bases and tallied 19 RBIs.
Gadsden City’s Ryan Sparks (designated hitter), Southside’s Logan Brooks (first base), Westbrook’s Cullen Stafford (third base), Coosa Christian’s Jackson Justus (third base) and Coosa’s Caleb Garrett (outfielder) were honorable mentions.
Piedmont’s Taylor Hayes was named Player of the Year in 3A and made the first team as a utility player. Easton Kirk (catcher) also made first team for the Bulldogs while Taylor Morrow (shortstop) landed on the second team.
Cherokee County was well represented with five players on the 4A teams. Jaren Lockridge (second base), Colin Edwards (shortstop) and Colin Brewer (designated hitter) made the first team for the Warriors. Noah Ledbetter (pitcher) and Jy Lockridge (catcher) landed on the second team.
