Congratulations to Ali Smith for being named interim head coach for the Gadsden City Titan Football program. Ali has worked in the Gadsden City School System for 18 years and has coached for 21 years. Smith said he “was looking forward to this opportunity to work with the kids of Gadsden City in this capacity.” Smith stated that his main priorities are the athletes and the football program of Gadsden City and to prepare these young men for battle on and off the field while in charge.
He attended Emma Sansom High School where he was a member of the 1992 State Championship Basketball Team, All Area Football 1989, 1990 and 1991, Honorable Mention Alabama High School Cornerback 1990 and 1991 and was inducted in to the Emma Sansom High School Wall of Fame in 2007. He attended Alabama State University from 1992 to 1997 on an athletic scholarship and majored in Criminal Justice. He then attended Jacksonville State University to finish his education in Criminal Justice and Physical Education.
Smith is currently in graduate school at the University of West Alabama, seeking his master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education.
When Emma Sansom, Gadsden High and Litchfield consolidated, Coach Smith came to Gadsden City High as the linebacker’s coach until 2007 when he took over as defensive coordinator and assistant head football coach until 2013. In 2013, he was moved to assistant defensive coordinator until 2015 when he returned as the defensive coordinator.
From 2006-2013, Smith was also the recruiting coordinator for GCHS football where he assisted over 40 players with their journey to the college football playing level and he was featured in Sports Illustrated acknowledging his recruiting efforts as a high school coach.
Coach Smith is married to Lamesha and together they have a son, Khamari (14) and a daughter, Kelis (9 months).
