GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING GADSDEN CITY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC EVENTS 2020-21
As we gear up for the upcoming 2020 fall sports season, the Gadsden City High School athletic department would like to announce new guidelines for fans and spectators that attend our athletic venues.
The AHSAA and ADPH are strongly encouraging schools to significantly reduce attendance allowed to athletic events. “Players, coaches, officials and spectators may not congregate within 6 feet of a person from another household except to the extent necessary, and only to the extent necessary, for players, coaches and officials to directly participate in the athletic activity.” Spectators must wear a mask or other facial covering that covers the nostrils and mouth at all times while within 6 feet of person from another household.
State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris noted that the AHSAA said that Best Practices guidance the association issued last month “was created to mitigate – not eliminate – the risk of COVID-19.” The AHSAA memo says schools are “strongly encouraged to establish and follow policies for limiting event attendance in order to comply” with the current public health order, and to require fans to wear facial coverings while entering and exiting the gates, while in the stands, and elsewhere. Dr. Harris stressed that the current public health order applies to schools and school-related events.
In addition, all persons with symptoms and all persons with known exposure to a COVID-19 positive case must quarantine for at least 14 days. Persons who are awaiting test results for COVID-19 should also remain at home until they receive results and guidance from their physician, healthcare provider, or the health department. Having a negative test does not eliminate the requirement for home quarantine when persons are close contacts to COVID-19 positive case or remain symptomatic without another diagnosis.
Based on these recommendations by the AHSAA and ADPH, ticket sales for home football games and volleyball matches will be under 50%. This percentage is subject to change.
ALL fans and spectators entering GCHS athletic events will be required to wear a mask or facial covering.
For the 2020-21 school year, Gadsden City High School will implement GOFAN. GOFAN is a cashless, touchless online ticketing service. This ticketing method will offer our fans a turnkey solution to safely, effectively and appropriately social distance. Fans and spectators are asked to purchase tickets online through the Gadsden City GOFAN page or by presenting a debit/credit card at the ticket booth. We ask that all fans and spectators purchase tickets to athletic contests online with GOFAN to help ensure the safety of our event personnel, limit person-to-person contact and the physical exchange of cash.
Tickets for ALL games will also be available for opposing fans and spectators to purchase. This will allow equal opportunity for everyone planning to attend an event. We highly recommend that you purchase tickets in advance to ensure availability. Tickets for some games are currently available now. Games are expected to sell out and purchases are non-refundable.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Please visit gadsdencityathletics.com for GOFAN ticket information and up-to-date news and announcements.
